Ben

A life-long athlete, fitness is in my blood. Even now, I continue in my active lifestyle through marathons, triathlons, and cycling. My love for fitness has led me to the belief that everyone deserves to be healthy and happy – strong and courageous in every aspect of their life. Fitness is the doorway to strength and courage.

Through years of studying in various fields, at various schools, and working for a decade in the restaurant business, I came to the realization that the things I’m most passionate about could also become my career.

I am a National Association of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer, hold a certificate in sports nutrition, and specialize in various training protocol, including TRX. I am a Road Runners of America Running Coach and am excited my services as a Certified Run Trainer through our Team Compete program.

I’m also a real person, a husband and father of two very active children, who works for a living. I understand how difficult it can be to find balance in our lives, but I believe that if we don’t invest the time into our health and fitness, there won’t be much time to live.

The true joy of my life is seeing everyday people succeed through strength and courage. I love to hear the stories and share in the pride when our clients and friends become the people we always knew they could be. I’d love to be part of your journey. Education is Key

At Compete Personal Fitness, fitness isn't about killer workouts and six-pack abs. It's about moving well and living your life on your terms.

We focus on functional movements and quality techniques throughout our workouts.

We believe in educating our clients during their training, teaching them to move safely and effectively so they get the most out of their workouts and also so they can move safely through their every day life.

In addition to our educational focus in our sessions, we also regularly host  workshops to further enhance our clients' ability to move better. 



 

The Five Pillars of Your Whole Life

We know that there is no magic pill. A healthy and happy lifestyle depends on balance. We believe that balance should be supported by specific habits. Our Five Pillars are: 

Exercise - The first pillar we focus on here at Compete is Exercise (we are a gym, afterall). It's important to participate in both strength (resistance) training and cardiovascular conditioning. Building muscle won't bulk you up and is a wonderful way to rev up your metabolism and help you maintain a healthy weight, as well as help to build bone density. Cardiovascular conditioning is key for maintaining a strong heart, lungs and keeping vital signs within healthy limits. A balanced combination of both is a strong first step to leading a healthier life.

Nutrition - Food is fuel (tasty fuel!) and is necessary for our daily activities. Balance in this pillar means eating whole foods when possible and enjoying a balance of protein, carbohydrates and fats. Moderation is key - and we believe that ice cream and pizza can fit quite nicely in this pillar!

Rest & Relaxation - Make time to relax and get adequate rest. Our bodies heal and repair while we sleep, as well as keeping our brain function sharp. Meditation, yoga, vacations, and 8 hours of sleep are all part of this very important pillar.

Regular Body Maintenance - Preventative checkups with your doctor, dentist, body workers (chiropractors and massage therapists) are ideal for being aware of your body and what it needs.

Fun -  Let's face it - if you're not enjoying your life, you're not going to continue your healthy habits. So, make FUN part of your routine!  Hobbies, vacations, games, and yes, even screen time, are important parts of enjoying your your healthy lifestyle. Our favorite is when fun and fitness come together, our body performs well and we can't wipe the smile off our face.

Ben is so much more than just a trainer, he makes an investment in you on a personal level that I've never experienced elsewhere, (and he's a stealth ninja with a Nerf gun!). I've been training for a little over 6 months now; I did the Trek Up the Tower this February and shaved nearly 4 minutes off my time from last year, finishing in 7min 53sec!
